From history to archaeology, join our experts for a wide selection of topics and dive deeper into the rich and fascinating history and some of its most colorful personalities in a variety of formats. Each program type offers a unique experience for everyone to enjoy. Learning from the Lowcountry program types include Lectures on Location, the Food for Thought Lecture Series, select talks with Experts at the American Theater and a variety of History Walking Tours. As the year's largest educational program offered by HCF, the Learning from the Lowcountry series is a vital part of our mission-driven work.

Lectures on Location

There's no better way to learn history than to experience the lore on site. This educational series features a collection of local experts speaking on location on each subject mattter at a variety of historic locations thorughout the Lowcountry, to both enhance, and bring to life the history they share.

Food for Thought Lecture Series

Join us atop Charleston’s at the Captain James Missroon House Community Room, looking over the High Battery in an informal setting, for a light lunch while enjoying one of our engaging and historical lectures. With limited space available, each talk is sure to be an engaging and intimate exploration of the subject matter with an opportunity to meet each speaker after the program.

History Walking Tours

The best way to learn the history of Charleston, South Carolina is to explore the city streets on a History Walking Tour with our partners, Bulldog Tours. Each walking tour will be an intimate tour of Charleston's neighborhoods as guests learn the highlights of Charleston's vast history over its centuries.

Themed Walking Tours, with partners Bulldog Tours, will dive deeper into sepecific topics crucial to understanding Charleston's rich history. Themes include Charleston's preservation legacy, natural disasters, and the women of the Revolutionary War, among others.
