About the event

Join The Cocktail Bandits—Taneka Reaves and Johnny Caldwell—for an unforgettable culinary and cultural celebration honoring the rich history of rice in South Carolina. Known nationally as the “Curly Ladies Who Talk Cocktails,” The Cocktail Bandits are Charleston-based, award-winning mixologists, authors of Holy Spirits! Charleston Culture Through Cocktails, and entrepreneurs dedicated to showcasing Southern spirits, mixology traditions, and Gullah Geechee culinary heritage. Their work highlights how food and beverage culture brings communities together, and this event is no exception.
Guests will savor signature rice dishes prepared by Carolima’s and Party Thyme Catering, featuring classics like Jollof Rice, Red Rice, and Chicken Bog—recipes that reflect centuries of African, Gullah Geechee, and Lowcountry influence. Sip rice-inspired cocktails specially crafted for the evening, sponsored by Appleton Rum and Burnt Church Distillery, or enjoy a beautifully layered mocktail from Amethyst Botanical Spirits. Each drink and dish speaks to the global journey of rice—from West Africa…
