About the event

Experience an unforgettable evening of music, history, and culture as Ann Caldwell and the Magnolia Singers bring their powerful storytelling through song to the hallowed grounds of the Aiken-Rhett House. Known throughout the Lowcountry for their masterful performances of Gullah spirituals, African American folk songs, and sacred music, the Magnolia Singers use layered harmonies, call-and-response, and traditional rhythms to honor the voices and traditions passed down through generations.

Led by celebrated vocalist, composer, and cultural preservationist Ann Caldwell, the Magnolia Singers have spent decades sharing the history of Charleston’s African American communities through music. Caldwell’s work focuses on the oral traditions, folklore, and musical heritage of the Gullah Geechee people, and she is renowned for her ability to weave historical narrative into each performance. Under her direction, the ensemble brings authenticity, reverence, and emotional depth to every song.
