About the event

Throughout its 350-year history, Charleston has been shaped by the visionary and courageous contributions of many women, particularly in the realm of historic preservation. These women played pivotal roles in safeguarding the city’s architectural heritage, ensuring that Charleston’s rich history was not lost to time. Notable figures such as Susan Pringle Frost and Frances Edmunds exemplify this spirit of resilience and determination.

As told by Valerie Perry, Assistant Director of Museums at Historic Charleston Foundation, this program will explore the stories of these remarkable women and others who defied the odds and fought for Charleston’s preservation. Their work not only helped protect the city’s architectural gems but also laid the foundation for Charleston’s ongoing legacy as a center for historic preservation. Their courage and innovation have left a lasting impact on both Charleston's built environment and its identity, making their contributions an essential part of the city’s history.
