About the event

Kanika Moore, a Charleston native singer celebrated for unparalleled versatility across genres, announces her latest project, Times Are Changing: 100 Years of Black American Women in Music and will perform from this body of work for the first time at The Charleston Festival 2025!

This new body of music from Kanika Moore is an ambitious endeavor honors the transformative contributions of Black women to American recorded music, tracing their legacy from the 1920s to today. Drawing on her rich jazz and soul roots, Moore offers a powerful musical journey through time, revisiting iconic works from Mamie Smith—the trailblazer of the 1920s golden age of jazz—to an original composition for the current decade. With inspired arrangements crafted in collaboration with Jonathan Lovette, Moore reimagines these timeless pieces to showcase their enduring resonance.

“I’m thrilled to honor the women who paved the way, shaping the soundscape of American music and inspiring generations,”…
