About the event

Join us for an engaging lecture exploring the rich history of tea and the art of entertaining in Charleston, South Carolina — a city where hospitality is a way of life. Discover how this beloved beverage became deeply interwoven with the social traditions of historic Charleston, from colonial-era imports to the rise of America’s first commercial tea plantation just outside the city on Wadmalaw Island. Learn how Charleston’s subtropical climate, cultural influences, and thriving port made it a natural hub for tea cultivation, trade, and ritual.
